Doug Milne

Bio

Doug is a Managing Partner of Canada ICI Capital Corporation and has been working in the commercial real estate industry for nearly 20 years. Doug has worked for some of Canada’s largest public and private real estate owners and developers. In his career, Doug has coordinated $4 Billion of capital working with pension funds, life companies, banks, trusts, and private equity to fund construction and term debt for all types of commercial and multi-family real estate across the country. Managing the Calgary office, Doug takes great pride in leading the tremendous growth of our experts who are central to the financing activity for some of Canada’s most recognizable real estate assets.

I like working in commercial real estate finance because it requires a detailed understanding of so many disciplines.  In order to do a good job at structuring capital, you need to understand the impacts of design, budgeting, servicing, leasing, investment performance, and credit risk.  All of this fluidity means no two deals are exactly the same. 

I believe the keys to success include a passion and commitment to achieving goals that are aligned. No one achieves something special solely by themselves, so figuring out how to surround yourself with people who fill your deficiencies is key. 

I am proud of the teams we have built in the different markets across the country.   I think we have a company of like-minded individuals that thrive in a dynamic environment.  It’s exciting to see them at the forefront of real estate activity. I think we have great people.  (I’m also proud of my two boys).

Working at ICI has taught me that success looks different for everyone.  Mine is about balance, which I’m constantly working at.    

Things I like include commercial real estate, Oiler wins, freshwater lakes, live music, days in the mountains, patio drinks, coaching my kids, being accountable, 80’s TV theme songs, and solving finance problems.
